NEWS RELEASE
NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE
***************************
Oct. 6 update:
Detectives are asking anyone who was travelling on Highway 20 between Balfour Street and Cream Street in the Town of Pelham on Oct. 2, 2020, between the hours of 2 and 3 a.m., to contact detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Homicide Unit at 905-688-4111, dial option 3, ext. 9134.

Oct. 4 release:
On Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at approximately 2:42 a.m., 3 District Uniform Officers, K9 and Emergency Services attended the area of Highway 20 and Cream Street in the Town of Pelham in response to a welfare check.

Uniform officers arrived on scene and located a male with serious injuries. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Earl Clapp (74 years old) of Pelham, Ont.

Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit have reason to believe that the male victim may have interrupted an attempted theft of one of his trailers on the victim’s property on Centre Street in the town of Pelham prior to 2:41 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020.

As a result, the male was struck and dragged by the vehicle as it fled north on Centre Street, then west on Highway 20. The victim was later discovered, deceased, near Cream Street.

Detectives are urging anyone with information or video of the area, during the times in question, to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 9134.
