Welland man arrested after shots fired investigation

Police say they responded to a call in which a woman believed someone shot a firearm through her ceiling; officers seized a Smith and Wesson 9mm Luger handgun

A Welland man was arrested in connection with a firearm incident in Welland on Monday morning.

On Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at 10 a.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers responded to a multi-unit residence in the area of Plymouth Road and Third Street in the City of Welland for a shots fired call for service. 

Investigation revealed that a female resident believed someone shot a firearm through the ceiling of her residence. 

Officers on scene were able to safely locate where the shot was fired from, and as a result a male was arrested.

Between Feb. 21, 2022 and Feb. 23, 2022, the Niagara Regional Police Service executed three search warrants. As a result the following items have been seized:

  • Brass knuckles also equipped with a centrifugal switch blade knife
  • Black Smith and Wesson 9mm Luger handgun
  • Magazine clip containing seven 9mm rounds of ammunition

Jason Leblanc (41 years old) of Welland, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession  of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate

Leblanc was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
