Victim threatened with firearm during assault in Niagara Falls: Police

On Nov. 8, 2021, at 8 p.m. officers from 2 District Uniform Patrol responded to a residence in the area of Ontario Avenue and Seneca Street, in the City of Niagara Falls regarding an assault in progress.

As the victim was exiting a residence of an acquaintance an altercation took place, resulting in the suspect using a weapon to corner and confine the victim.  The victim sustained minor injuries consisting of lacerations to the face.  After a short period of time the victim was permitted to leave and was threatened by the suspect who was holding what was believed to be a firearm.

Detectives assigned to the 2 District Criminal Investigative Branch applied for a search warrant on the suspects residence in the area of Ontario Avenue and Seneca Street, in the City of Niagara Falls.  The firearm used during the commission of the offence was seized and determined to be a pistol style pellet gun.

Sandro Tomazinic (28 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and is charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a weapon – Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Uttering threats – Section 264.1(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Forcible confinement – Section 279(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Robbery – Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Use of imitation firearm during the commission of an offence – Section 85(2)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with release order – Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Tomazinic was held in custody pending a bail hearing via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines on Nov. 9, 2021.  He was remanded into custody and will reappear via video link on November 12th, 2021.
