Two facing vehicle theft, break and enter charges in Niagara Falls

Police say the stolen vehicle was initially spotted by an officer in Grimsby. The vehicle was eventually located abandoned in St. Catharines while the suspects were eventually located and arrested roughly 45 minutes later following a search

On Jan. 13, 2021, 2 District - Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a commercial break and enter in Niagara Falls.

Officers attended the scene in the area of Victoria Avenue and Ferguson Street. The investigation determined that sometime overnight suspects had broken into the building. They [allegedly] stole items from the building and a Ford 350 utility pick truck.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. an 8 District – Grimsby officer located the stolen truck in the area of Victoria Avenue and South Service Road in Lincoln (Vineland). The officer attempted to stop the stolen truck but the driver refused to pull over and fled the area. The officer began to pursue the stolen truck. At approximately 7:23 a.m. the pursuit was called off by the officer out of a concern for public safety in the area of Greenlane Drive and Maple Grove Road in Beamsville.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. the stolen truck side swiped a blue Chevrolet Equinox at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and the South Service Road in Lincoln. The stolen truck failed to stop at the collision scene and entered the QEW St. Catharines bound. The Chevrolet driver received minor injuries. Damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at approximately $3,000.

At approximately 7:47 a.m. the abandoned stolen truck was located by a 1 District officer in the area of Dakotah Street and Wiley Street in St. Catharines.

1 District officers along with the K9 Unit attended the area to try and locate the suspects.  Members of the NRPS Emergency Task Unit (ETU) who were also assisting on the call saw the two male suspects in the area of Hartzel Road and Queenston Street.   At approximately 8:34 a.m. the suspects were both arrested without any further incident.

Sean J. McVey (37 years old) of no fixed address, has been charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Break and enter commit theft - Section 348(1)(b)CC
  • Theft of motor vehicle - Section 333.1(1) CC
  • Possession of break and enter instruments - Section 351(1)CC

Richard Sicurella-Grant (26 years old) of Jarvis, has been charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Break and enter commit theft - Section 348(1)(b)CC
  • Theft of motor vehicle - Section 333.1(1) CC
  • Possession of break and enter instruments - Section 351(1)CC
  • Flight from police - Section 320.17 CC
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance - Section 320.13(1)CC]

The arrested males were held in custody and attended a video bail hearing on Jan. 14, 2021, at the Robert. S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
