In May of 2020, detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service, 3 District (Welland) Street Crime Unit, began an investigation into the sales of fentanyl from a residence, in the area of Leaside Drive and Woodlawn Road, in the City of Welland.
The investigation led detectives to identify a male and a female, selling fentanyl from that residence.
On July 2, 2020, detectives with the assistance of 3 District (Welland) detectives and the K9 unit, arrested the two suspects.
Subsequently, on July 3, 2020, detectives executed search warrants under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As a result, detectives seized 57.7 grams of fentanyl, $4,400 in cash, 500 Xanax tablets, and further evidence to support trafficking. In addition, property was seized in relation to outstanding charges with Durham Regional Police.
Michael Anthony Nanton-Madden (26 years old) of Scarborough, Ont., was arrested and charged with the alleged following offences of:
- Possession for the purpose of Trafficking a Scheduled 1 Substance-Fentanyl
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Scheduled IV Substance-Xanax
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5000.
Nanton-Madden is being held in custody and is expected to appear for a bail hearing on July, 4, 2020, at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
Nanton-Madden fled from police in May, when attempts were made to take him into custody. He has since been outstanding.
Meaghan Roy (33 years old) of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with the alleged following offences of:
- Possession for the purpose of Trafficking a Scheduled 1 Substance-Fentanyl
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Scheduled IV Substance-Xanax
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5000.
Roy is being held in custody and is expected to appear for a bail hearing on July, 4, 2020, at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
Nanton- Manton had outstanding warrants with the Durham Regional Police Service for the alleged following offences:
- Break and Enter
- Point firearm
- Forcible Confinement
- Kidnapping
- Possession of Dangerous Weapon
- Robbery with Weapon
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Utter Threats
- Flight from Police
