Suspect sought after mall jewelry store theft

Police say a man smashed a display case and stole several items from the People’s Jewellery Store at the Seaway Mall

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., 3 District (Welland/Fonthill) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) attended the People’s Jewellery Store, within the Seaway Mall located at 800 Niagara Street in the City of Welland, in response to a theft.

Investigation revealed an unknown suspect entered the store smashing the display case and stole several items of an undisclosed value. The suspect fled through the mall and exited out the south doors of the Seaway Mall.

Neither the employees nor patrons were physically injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was believed to have fled towards the cemetery located at Niagara Woodlawn road in the City of Welland.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • White
  • Approximately 30 years old
  • 5’8”, medium build

Wearing a grey hooded sweater, black toque, black puma sweatpants with a puma logo on the left pocket.  They suspect was also wearing bright orange construction gloves and a grey cloth mask over his face disguising his identity.

The matter remains under investigation with 3 District detectives. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009046.
