This robbery was not a smashing success

A St. Catharines man is charged with two counts of break and enter after allegedly using a hammer to smash through three shopping mall windows—all for a $300 skateboard

Niagara Regional Police have arrested a 25-year-old St. Catharines man who allegedly used a hammer to smash through multiple glass doors of a shopping mall in order to steal a $300 skateboard.

The incident occurred on Feb. 10 at the Pen Centre on Glendale Ave.

Collin Lauzon is facing two counts of break and enter. He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect.

Collin Lauzon (25 years old) of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Break and Enter with Intent
  • Break and Enter Commit (Theft Under $5000) 

Lauzon was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Original Release - February 17, 2022

On February 10, 2022, at 1:17AM, 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers responded to the Pen Centre, on Glendale Avenue, in St. Catharines for a break and enter in progress call.

The initial investigation by officers determined that a male had just smashed the glass of an exterior entrance door.  Once in the mall the male smashed out a window at a store, located near the food court in the mall.  The suspect stole a skateboard from the window.  The suspect then smashed a locked glass exit door and ran from the mall property.

The suspect used a hammer to break the glass.

Officers set up a perimeter and a K9 Unit attended.  The suspect was not found.

Damage is estimated at $5000.

The stolen skateboard is valued at $300.

The suspect is described as:

  • White, male
  • 5'9" to 5'11" feet tall
  • Slim build
  • Brown short hair
  • Unkempt beard
  • The suspect wore shoes, light tan pants, a multi coloured hoodie, carried a backpack and his left hand was covered with cloth.
