Suspect sought in St. Catharines robbery at knifepoint

On Friday, February 2, 2024, at approximately 9:15pm, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers were dispatched to the Avondale located at 109 Martindale Road in the City of St. Catharines regarding a robbery call for service.

Investigation revealed that an unknown male had entered the store, walked behind the register, threatened the employee with a knife while demanding money. The suspect grazed the employee with a knife before a physical struggle ensued and the suspect was chased out by the employee. The suspect was last seen running westbound on Grapeview Drive.  An unknown amount of currency was taken before the suspect fled.  The K9 unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended however had negative results in locating the suspect.

The employee was assessed by Niagara Emergency Medical Services on scene and had no physical injuries.

The suspect is described as:

Darker skinned male, twenties, approximately 5'6", muscular build, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, a black mask and gloves, black running style shoes, and a black medical style fabric mask. The suspect wore his hood up with the drawstrings pulled closed on his face.

Detectives with 1 District have taken carriage of the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009711.
