St. Catharines man suffers serious injuries in two-vehicle crash

On April 20, 2020, at approximately 12:10 p.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers responded to the intersection of Lake Street and the North Service Road in the City of St. Catharines for a report of a serious collision.

Officers arrived on scene along with paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) and personnel from St. Catharines Fire Services.

The investigation determined that a Black Ford Fiesta was travelling westbound on the North Service Road turning southbound onto Lake Street. A black Dodge Ram pickup was eastbound on the North Service Road going straight. 

The Ford is alleged to have turned into the path of the Dodge resulting in a collision.

The sole occupant of the Dodge, a 33-year-old man from Niagara Falls, was uninjured.

The driver of the Ford, a 26-year-old female from St. Catharines received minor injuries and was transported to hospital by Niagara EMS. 

The single passenger of the Ford, a 22-year-old man from St. Catharines, needed to be extricated from the car by St. Catharines Fire Services. He received serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital by Niagara EMS paramedics and then flown to an out of region trauma hospital by Ornge helicopter.

The Ford is considered demolished. The damage to the Dodge is estimated at $10000.

The driver of the Ford has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Careless Driving.

The collision investigation resulted in road closures in the area.  The roads were reopened at approximately 3:45 p.m.

The investigation is being conducted by uniform officers from the 1 District St. Catharines office of the NRPS with the assistance of the NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit.  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact 9056884111, 4233.
