St. Catharines convenience store armed robbery under investigation

On Dec. 3, 2020 at approximately 9:25 p.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a hold up alarm in St. Catharines.

Officers arrived on scene at the Avondale Store located at 461 Bunting Rd. (near Scott Street) in St. Catharines. The initial investigation by officers determined that a male suspect had entered the store demanded money and threatened staff with a weapon. The suspect ran from the store with cash and cigarettes. The staff member was not injured.

The suspect is described as:
    •    Black male
    •    Approximately 6'0 feet tall
    •    20-30 years old
    •    Medium build

The suspect was wearing:
    •    Toque with a hood over top
    •    Black face covering
    •    Black winter gloves
    •    Black sweat pants with red and white writing on the left leg
    •    Black hoodie with a light grey zip up sweater over top - there was a white logo on the left chest that resembled the "Air Jordan" logo

A K9 Unit from the Niagara Parks Police attended to assist with efforts to track the suspect.

The investigation has been taken over by detectives from the NRPS 1 District detective office. Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, ext. 9482.
