St. Catharines armed robbery suspect arrested in Toronto

Anthony Dass, a 22-year-old from North York, faces multiple charges in connection with the carjacking—which was caught on camera

A Toronto man has been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking—caught on camera—that occurred last month in St. Catharines.

On the morning of Dec. 28, 2021, a man leaving his house for work was confronted on his front porch by another man brandishing a Glock handgun. In a dramatic scene captured by the doorbell camera, the gunman demanded the victim's car keys and hit him with the black pistol. When the victim handed over the keys, the gunman tossed them to a nearby accomplice standing out of the camera's range.

The second suspect sped off in the man's 2006 blue Land Rover. The gunman is believed to have fled in a separate getaway car.

Police say the Land Rover was recovered in Toronto on Jan. 3, and further investigation led detectives to the alleged gunman—who was already in a Toronto-area detention centre facing unrelated charges.

At a Toronto court appearance on Wednesday, 22-year-old Anthony Dass of North York was formally charged in connection with the St. Catharines robbery. The charges include:
