Police investigating attempted robbery in St. Catharines

Police are asking the public's help in identifying the suspect

On Sept. 26, 2020, at approximately 12:25 a.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of robbery at the CIBC Bank ATM on King Street near Queen Street in St. Catharines.

Officers arrived on scene and met with the male victim. The officer's investigation determined that the victim had entered the foyer of the closed bank to use the ATM.  While doing so he was approached by a male suspect who was holding a knife. The suspect threatened the victim with the knife and demanded he withdraw money from the ATM.

The victim did not provide the suspect with any money; and the suspect then ran from the area. A NRPS K9 Unit attended the bank, but they were not able to locate the suspect.

The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as: 

  • White male  
  • 5'3 feet tall  
  • 20-30 years old  
  • Wearing a black sweater with the hood up, a blue mask, dark jeans, and brown shoes with white soles.

Detectives took over the investigation and have recently been able to obtain suspect photos.
