Niagara Police say a head-on crash this afternoon involving two vehicles in which a third parked car was also damaged has sent two people to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Police say shortly after 4 p.m. emergency services personnel were called for a report of a serious collision in Fort Erie.

Police from 5 District (Fort Erie), Niagara EMS paramedics and the Fort Erie Fire Service attended to the scene on Ridgeway Road near Lynwood Lane where a grey Toyota Corolla and a Ford Mustang had collided head on.

The driver of the Toyota, a 54-year-old from Niagara Falls, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene in critical condition to a local hospital.

He was later flown by Ornge Air Ambulance to an out-of-region hospital, police said in a news release.

The driver of the Ford, a 49-year-old man from Oakville, was taken to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police said initial investigation determined the Toyota was travelling southbound at a high rate of speed on Ridgeway Road when it collided with the Ford and then into a parked, unoccupied Acura TL.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Services Unit are investigating.

Ridgeway Road between Fernwood Lane and Graeber Avenue remained closed as of about 9:15 p.m.
