One killed in single-vehicle crash in Welland

On Jan. 22, 2021, at approximately 7:57am, 3 District (Welland) uniform officers, the Welland Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services attended the area of Ridge Road and Doans Ridge Road, in the City of Welland, in regards to an unknown problem.

Further investigation revealed that there had been a single vehicle collision.

A 24-year-old male was operating a Black Jeep Cherokee westbound, when it lost control and hit a hydro pole. As a result, there was significant damage to the driver's side of the vehicle.

The impact of the collision resulted in the male being thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Forensic Service Unit, the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the office of the Coroner.
