Grimsby store owner charged with fraud

Acting on a complaint from a member of the public detectives from the 8 District Grimsby office of the Niagara Regional Police Service commenced a fraud investigation involving a local convenience store.

Following a month long fraud investigation, on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, 8 District Criminal Investigations Branch detectives, assisted by uniformed officers executed a warrant at Milk N Things convenience store located at 74 Main St. W., Grimsby.

A collection of counterfeit water pipes and sunglasses bearing illegal trademarks were seized. The total value of items is under $5,000.

The store owner/manager Hikmat Reda (54 years old) of Hamilton has been arrested and charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:
    •    Fraud, CC 380(1)
    •    Passing off wares, CC 408(b)
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime, CC 354(1)

Reda was released on a Promise to Appear at the scene and provided with a future court date.
