Fort Eerie man accused of brandishing large knife in public

Police say the suspect smashed his head against the partition of the cruiser while being transported and needed to be brought to the hospital

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at approximately 10:55 a.m., 5 District (Fort Erie) uniform officers attended the area of Ridge Road N and Hibbard Street, in Fort Erie for an assist ambulance call. Further information received was that a male was armed with a knife.

Investigation revealed that a male was observed walking on Ridge Road brandishing a large knife. The knife was exposed in a dangerous manner with many members of the public present.

At approximately 11:10 a.m., the suspect was arrested. As a result, the suspect was found to be in possession of a large metal 9’ black and red spring-loaded style pocket knife.

As the officers were transporting the suspect to Central Prisoner Management, the suspect began to smash his head against the partition and kick the windows in the rear of the cruiser. Officers pulled the cruiser over, concerned for the welfare of the suspect and contacted Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Officers were able to safely transport the suspect to a hospital where he sought medical treatment.

Seth C. Woelke (21 years old), of Fort Erie, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with weapons prohibition
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Woelke will be held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on July 1, 2021.
