Firefighters rescue man from Port Colborne house fire

Victim transported to hospital in critical but stable condition

On Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 at 1:59 p.m., 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers attended the area of McCain Street and Fielden Avenue in the City of Port Colborne in response to a residential fire.

Police arrived on scene and located a male on the roof of the house and black smoke covering the top floor of the residence. A female from the residence was able to get out safely and place a ladder on the house for the male to get down. Both residents then advised there was another male still inside.

The Port Colborne Fire Department and Niagara Emergency Medical Services attended the scene. Fire crews entered the home and removed the male from the residence. The male was tended to by fire and EMS prior to being transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

The estimated damage to the property is an excess of $250,000.

This matter remains under investigation by detectives with 3 District and the Ontario Fire Marshall.
