House fire in Welland leaves one in critical condition

Two others escaped the fire, which is currently under investigation

On Nov. 27, 2020, at approximately 8:37 p.m., 3 District (Welland) Uniform Officers, with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), the Welland Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, attended a residence in the area of Clare Avenue and Sharon Avenue, in the City of Welland in regards to a house fire.

Officers arrived on scene and observed a large amount of smoke coming from the residence. Investigation revealed that two people were able to escape the fire, however one male sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to an out of region hospital.  He is currently in critical condition.

Detectives are working with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office as they continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

The scene is expected to be held for several days as the investigation continues.
