Driver dies after vehicle ends up in water near Allanburg Bridge (Updated with photos)

Second person airlifted to hospital with critical injuries

At approximately 1 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2020, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers were called to the area of Service Road West and Regional Rd 20 near the Allanburg Bridge for the report of a vehicle in the water.

When emergency crews arrived, a 28-year-old female was trapped inside the vehicle. She was able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore. She was then airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the vehicle and the male driver were located in the water and the male was pronounced deceased.

The collision remains under investigation by members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) as well as the NRPS Marine Unit. The male’s identity is not being provided at this time as detectives notify next of kin.
