Driver charged with impaired after collision in Port Colborne

Officers found a flipped-over black pickup after the other driver had fled the scene

At approximately 12 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers were called to the area of Main Street East and Dolphin Street in the City of Port Colborne following the report of a collision.

When officers arrived, they located a flipped-over black pickup truck as well as information that a grey pickup truck had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers were able to quickly locate and stop the vehicle a short distance away before subsequently taking the driver into custody.

Twenty-one-year-old Daniel Legault of Welland is facing the following charges:

  • impaired conveyance by alcohol contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • impaired conveyance - exceed B.A.C. contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • novice driver - B.A.C. over zero contrary to Section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act

No one was physically injured as a result of the collision.

Legault was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Sunday Sept. 27, 2021 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
