Charge laid in April hit-and-run in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Police have laid a charge against the driver in a fatal accident that took place on April 5, 2021. The press release from Niagara Regional Police Service and the updates regarding the case are as follows:


As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 54 year old male from Niagara-on-the-Lake was charged with the following offence of:

  • Fail to report accident - S.199(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

Update Two - April 9, 2021

The deceased has been identified as Matthew Wilson, 40 years old, of Niagara-on-the-Lake.  

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Update One - April 6, 2021

On Monday, April 5, 2021 at approximately 7:18 a.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers and Emergency Medical Services attended the area of Lakeshore Road and McNab Road, in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, in regards to an assist ambulance call.

Officers arrived on scene and located a deceased male on the side of the road. Further investigation revealed that the male was struck by a vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, officers have identified the driver of a Ford F150 that was travelling eastbound on Lakeshore Road when the pedestrian was struck by the passenger side of the vehicle.

The matter remains ongoing by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Original Release - April 5, 2021

On Monday, April 5, 2021 at approximately 7:18 a.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers and Emergency Medical Services attended the area of Lakeshore Road and Mcnab Road, in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, in regards to an assist ambulance call.

Officers arrived on scene and located a deceased adult male on the side of the road, at the location. Further investigation revealed that the male was struck by a vehicle.

Lakeshore Road, between Mcnab Road and Stewart Road, is expected to remain closed as the investigation remains on going by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
