Central Fraud Unit arrests man for concrete work scam

In August 2021, detectives with the Central Fraud Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service began an investigation into the allegations of contractor fraud by the owner of the company Pasha’s Concrete Corporation. 

Investigation revealed that the owner of the company would enter into contracts with members of the public for concrete jobs. The owner of the company would request a deposit prior to starting any work.  Victims would pay the deposit; however, the work was neither started nor completed.

In total, members of the public were defrauded in excess of $39,000.00.

Hakan Akgul (32 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Fraud Under $5,000 (6 Counts)
  • Fraud Over $5,000 (2 Counts)

Akgul was released on a Form 10 – Undertaking with a future court date.
