Arrest made in St. Catharines stabbing investigation

On April 12, 2022 at 12:02 a.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded to an address in the area of Ferndale Avenue and Dunvegan Road in the City of St. Catharines for a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival officers located the victim, a 55-year-old male suffering from stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics before being airlifted to an out-of-town trauma centre by Ornge Air Ambulance. The victim is in stable condition.

Bryan Schneider (28 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with:

  • aggravated assault – Contrary to section 268(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Schneider has been held in custody pending a bail hearing that will take place on April 12, 2022, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.

Detectives can confirm this was a targeted incident.
