Arrest made in St. Catharines historic sexual assault investigation

Offences occurred when the victims were under the age of 16, police say

In March of 2021, detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service's Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) commenced an investigation into allegations of historic sexual assaults.

The investigation has revealed that in 1999, two males under the age of 16 were allegedly sexually assaulted in the City of St. Catharines.

As a result of the investigation, on May 11, 2021, the male suspect was arrested.

Michel Joseph Fournier (62 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Sexual assault
    •    Sexual interference
    •    Invitation to sexual touching (two counts)
    •    Possession of child pornography (two counts)
    •    Accessing child pornography (two counts)

Fournier was released with a future court date.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives have reason to believe that there may be more victims.
