Arrest made in St. Catharines armed robbery investigation

Police say the accused brandished a firearm during the incident

On Jan. 21, 2022 at approximately 10:45 p.m., 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) attended the Shell Gas Station located at 389 Ontario St. in the City of St. Catharines for a armed robbery call.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 10:15 p.m., a male suspect entered the store, brandished a firearm at an employee and left the store with stolen items. The male then fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.

The employee did not sustain any physical injuries.

Marcel M. McGrath (40 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    robbery (firearm)
    •    carrying concealed weapon
    •    possession of a weapon
    •    pointing a firearm
    •    disguised with intent

McGrath was held in custody pending a bail hearing that took place on Jan. 23, 2022.

The investigation remains ongoing with detectives with 1 District.
