VIDEO: The one thing that was 'awesome' about the pandemic

The latest episode of our 'Inside the Village' podcast explores how COVID-19 helped fuel a new generation of snowmobile lovers

At this point, nobody wants to reminisce about the pandemic. It was a brutal period, plain and simple.

But if there was one silver lining, this was it: the peak of COVID-19 was the perfect time to ride a snowmobile.

Lisa Stackhouse, the director of programs and partnerships at the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, was a recent guest on Village Media's Inside the Village podcast.

While talking about rider safety — and the late start to this year's snowmobiling season — Stackhouse recalled just how popular the sport became during the height of the pandemic. With little else to do, a lot of people took a crack at snowmobiling.

"It was an awesome time — if I dare say that about the pandemic," Stackhouse said. "In other aspects of my life I might not say that, but certainly for organized snowmobiling in Ontario, it changed how we operated. We are a very in-person business but we were able to mobilize and become virtual quickly."

"It was really great that people had something to do when there really wasn't anything," she said.
