Niagara Falls officials are investigating after a local baseball field was destroyed by vandals, leaving the field unusuable.

It was on Monday that parks staff in Niagara Falls discovered that the ground at the Patrick Cummings Memorial Sports Complex torn up by tire tracks, seemingly from ATVs.

“Evidence of off-road vehicle tracks from an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and dirt bike now scar the playing field,” said a statement from the city.

“The extent of the damage to the sod, clay diamond and irrigation system is being investigated. Municipal Works Manager, Marianne Tikky estimates it will cost thousands of dollars to repair.”

Niagara Regional Police is investigating the matter.

City officials encourage anyone with information to come forward.
