Thorold woman held at knifepoint inside her home

One man has been arrested, but police are searching for multiple other suspects after woman in Confederation Heights was victim of a 'targeted incident'

Niagara Regional Police have arrested one man—but are still searching for other suspects—after a Thorold woman was held at knifepoint inside her home earlier this month.

Police say that on Feb. 5, a group of men knocked on the woman's door in Confederation Heights. When she answered, the assailants pushed her inside and held a knife to her throat.

Zachary Durant, a 26-year-old of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.

According to the news release below, police believe this was a "targeted incident" and that "other unknown parties were involved."

On February 5, 2022, 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers and detectives with 1 District and detectives with 1 District Street Crime began an investigation into an incident that occurred in the area of Tara Crescent and Commerford Street, in the City of Thorold.

Investigation revealed that a female had answered her door when multiple unknown males pushed themselves into her home and held a knife to her throat.

The female victim did not sustain any physical injuries. 

As a result of the investigation detectives were able to identify a suspect and place him under arrest.

Zachary Durant (26 years old) of no fixed address, was charged with the following offences of

  • Forcible Confinement
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Break and Enter Dwelling House
  • Uttering Threats
  • Pointing a Firearm

Durant was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

This appears to be a targeted incident.

At this time police believe other unknown parties were involved in the incident.
