Filling in for Mayor Terry Ugulini at the annual Mayor’s Invitational Grape Stomp Saturday, Sentance tied for second place with Clare Cameron, deputy lord mayor from Niagara-on-the-Lake, as local politicians vied for bragging rights while stomping grapes in a tub, timed for one minute.
The two were outstomped by Lincoln Coun. John (J.D.) Pachereva, but considered it a win, since all participants raised money for the Walker Family Cancer Clinic and the Niagara Health Foundation in the lighthearted stomp.
Event emcee was former four-time grape stomp champion St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik, who thanked the Jaycees for hosting the yearly fundraiser, as part of the Niagara Wine Festival held in Montebello Park.
Cancer survivor Mayor Jim Diodati of Niagara Falls not only won the grape stomp; he raised close to $6,000 to help stomp out cancer.
The Festival continues this week, with multiple events featured until Sept. 29.
