Public Health Ontario is reporting 722 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 2,015 new COVID cases today, however, these numbers may be underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.
Public Health Ontario will now be reporting deaths that occur due to COVID-19, excluding those deaths where the patient had tested positive for COVID-19, but that was not the cause of death. This has brought the total number of deaths down from previous reports.
The March 12 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
- 1,722 recoveries and 16 deaths
- The vaccination status of the new cases has not yet been released, but will be updated as that information becomes available.
- 232 patients are in ICU with COVID-19 related illness.
- 129 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (22 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- The province reported 13,005 tests were processed yesterday with a 15.4 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 5,479 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, over 23 million tests have been completed.
Vaccines
- There were 15,097 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
- 31,850,821 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total, 12,055,691 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,123,709 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,095,221 recoveries and 12,247 deaths, 4,382 of those in long-term care homes.
