At least 184 COVID patients are currently hospitalized in intensive care units and 82 are on ventilators, according to the latest data collected from Ontario hospitals.
The latest provincial update includes 2,401 lab-confirmed COVID cases.
Case counts are assumed to be underestimated because not everyone is eligible to receive PCR testing and only PCR results are included in the daily case counts.
The province reported three more COVID-related deaths that occurred within the last month.
According to the latest update, there have been 204 COVID deaths since March 12, with between four and 14 deaths each day.
Over the course of the pandemic, the province has reported 12,566 deaths that were either caused by COVID, COVID was a contributing factor to the death, or the cause of death was unknown or missing.
Among those deaths were 7,288 people aged 80 and over, 4,234 people between 60 and 79 years old, 893 people between 40 and 59 years old, 134 people between 20 and 39 years old, and 16 people under 19 years old.
As of today, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,198,319 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,154,050 cases recovered or resolved.
The April 11 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
Hospitalizations
- 1,090 COVID-positive patients in hospitals, up from 977 reported yesterday.
- 184 people are in ICU because of COVID-related critical illness, which is up from 173 reported yesterday. Of those, 31 no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- There are 82 patients on ventilators because of COVID-related critical illness, down from 88 yesterday.
- Hospitalization data is incomplete because more than 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report to the bed census on weekends. It is assumed hospitalization numbers are underestimated in Sunday and Monday.
- Vaccination status for hospitalized patients is not available Sunday and Monday.
Vaccination
- About 86 per cent of the population over four years old in Ontario is fully vaccinated (about 12.1 million people)
- More than 7.2 million people in Ontario have had three doses of a COVID vaccine.
- 10 per cent of the eligible population (aged 5 and up) is unvaccinated
Testing
- Ontario labs processed 12,149 tests for the latest report, resulting in a 17.6 per cent positivity.
