Public Health Ontario reported 656 new COVID cases today for Aug. 31.
The latest update noted 650 recoveries and 13 deaths, but six of the deaths occurred more than two months ago and were not previously reported.
The Sept. 1 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- Of the new cases reported today, 397 were unvaccinated people, 52 were partially vaccinated, 152 were fully vaccinated, and 55 are listed as vaccination status unknown (missing health card information).
- 5,861 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 5,868 yesterday.
- 339 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
- Of the COVID patients hospitalized and not in the ICU, 157 are unvaccinated, 14 are partially vaccinated, and 36 are fully vaccinated.
- There are 135 COVID-positive patients in intensive care, plus another 28 patients who no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- 77 COVID patients are on ventilators and another 19 patients on ventilators no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- Of the COVID patients in the ICU, 89 are unvaccinated, six are partially vaccinated, and 12 are fully vaccinated.
- 9,964,336 Ontarians (about 67 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 863,985 (six per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. Approximately 27 per cent of the population is unvaccinated.
- The province reported 27,572 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.9 per cent positivity rate. Provincial labs have processed 17.2 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today 158 are from Toronto, 59 are from Peel, 22 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 76 are from York Region.
- Today's cases include 100 individuals under 12 years old, 70 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 250 people between 20 and 39 years old, 155 people between 40 and 59 years old, 64 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 18 people over 79 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 566,206 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 550,829 recoveries and 9,516 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,842.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 32.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 14.1 per cent from the week of Aug. 16.
