There are about 289 patients in Ontario ICUs with COVID-related critical illness, according to the latest report by the province.

The latest COVID updates published by the province also report 35 new deaths, 2,427 new cases and approximately 1,003 COVID-positive patients in Ontario hospitals.

Hospitalizations have decreased since the beginning of the month. On Feb. 1, the province reported 3,091 COVID-positive patients and 568 of those patients in ICUs.

New case counts no longer reflect COVID-19 transmission in the province as testing is not open to everyone. Totals are therefore underestimated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,096,357 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,065,561 recoveries and 12,386 deaths.

The Feb. 25 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 2,427 recoveries since yesterday's report

Hospitalizations

  • 1,003 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19. Of those, 48.5 per cent were admitted because of COVID-19 and 51.5 per cent were admitted for other reasons but test positive for COVID-19.
  • Included in the hospitalized cases are 239 unvaccinated people, 29 partially vaccinated people, and 557 fully vaccinated people.
  • There are approximately 297 patients in Ontario ICUs with COVID-related illnesses, and 244 patients in the ICU currently testing positive for COVID-19.
