One final skate at James Whyte Arena

You're invited to the last-ever open skate at the James Whyte Arena on Saturday March 19; fond memories—and free hot chocolate—will be flowing

In what is sure to be a nostalgic moment for many Thorold residents, the James Whyte Arena is hosting one last public skate before melting the ice for good.

On Saturday, March 19, between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., everyone is welcome to come for a skate and enjoy free hot chocolate. Entrance fees are $2.00 for anyone under 18 or over 55, and $3.00 for adults. Proof of vaccination is not required.

Leading up to the final day, the arena is hosting numerous other March Break open skates. (See the above photo for dates and times.)

As ThoroldToday previously reported, all ice activities at the James Whyte Arena will move to the newly built Canada Games Park next season.

What will happen to the Whyte Arena?

“We will be looking at future use for it," said Curtis Dray, the city’s manager of community services, during a recent meeting the Parks, Trails and Recreation committee. "Council has asked us to figure out what we want to do with the space and come back with some ideas."
