Downtown businesses to put on Mother's Day event

Participants will get to make a candle, lotion, and intention roller ball; 'We're trying to work together as a group'

Local businesses in downtown Thorold are teaming up to host a Mother’s Day event.

“We're trying to work together as a group,” Da Bomb Bath shop owner Marsha Coppola tells ThoroldToday. “It is myself, One Earth, and Pretty Potions Apothecary. We're each going to be doing our own little class. And then we thought, "Why not collab with the local restaurants and add a food option?’”

Food will be provided by JC Patisserie, Chef and Bub and The Burgh. Participants will get to create something special in each class.

“So myself, we're going to be doing little tea cup candles,” says Coppola. “One Earth is going to be doing lotions. And I believe Pretty Potions is going to be doing aromatherapy.”

Coppola says that customers are really hungry for activities these days.

“After the whole lockdown and not being able to do stuff, people are looking more for experiences,” she says. “I'm booking classes like crazy. People are wanting to get out.”

It is no coincidence that the shop owners have chosen Mother’s Day weekend for their collaboration.

“We thought Mother's Day is a great experience because you bring your mom out, you do it with them,” says Coppola. “We thought it could be something fun.”

Coppola hopes the event is the start of many more.

“I'm excited to work with these guys,” she says. “The day we sat down and got together and started planning, and it was so awesome to hear the different ideas, and I definitely think it will be something we do again in a couple months.”

It’s just one of the ways downtown business are trying to foster community in stead of competition.

“We know we sell similar items, but why not work together and help each other out?” Says Coppola. “I mean, as long as it brings people to downtown Thorold and it keeps people in Thorold.”

Coppola is already counting down the days to the big event.

“It's three hours, you're gonna be eating, you're gonna be making product,” she says. “It’s a good experience, and you're going to remember it.”

The Mother’s Day Event will take place on Saturday, May 11. Tickets are $99 and can be purchased here.
