City planning to spend $200,000 on new lawn-cutting equipment, snow plow vehicles

It might get easier to trek the streets of Thorold this winter.

The city of is shopping for new tractors and lawn-cutting equipment and is anticipating spending closer to $200,000. A new city report published todays hows the city is planning to buy 7 pieces of equipment, ranging from lawn-cutting tractors to two vehicles that can be used as street-sweepers or for snow plowing.

“With increased growth within the City and additional locations that require winter maintenance, the recommended equipment can be deployed simultaneously to multiple locations to maintain the level of service approved by Council while also building in redundancy for downtime on any one machine,” the report said.

Staff is recommending the city to give the deal to Ben Berg Farm and Industrial Equipment for delivery of the machinery, that has an approximate arrival time of 2-6 weeks.

The expense is covered by the 2021 Capital Budget that put aside $240,000 for replacement of equipment.

Simultaneously, the city is also looking to award a $70,000-contract for a report on future cemetery services to determine what services the city should target over the next 10 years.

The report will be presented to council in November, and will discuss layout- and design elements around cemeteries, and more.
