It’s snowing. A lot.
An Environment Canada-issued Blizzard Warning has Niagara region on high alert for hazardous conditions on roads due to reduced visibility on roads with continued snowfall and strong winds.
By tonight, Niagara could see as much as 50 cm snow as the first storm of the year has shut down a slew of facilities and businesses in the area.
Apart from schools being closed, a number of Thorold businesses and services are shut down.
Niagara Region Public Transit has suspended service until 1 PM
• Regional Headquarters - closed
• Mass immunization clinic in Niagara Falls - closed
• All daycare and child care centres - closed
• All social assistance centres - closed
• All landfills, waste and recycling centres – will have delayed opening, further update to come
• Waste collection is cancelled today
• All Public Health offices - closed
• All sexual health centres and mental health offices - closed
• Call centre – will remain open, but residents will be advised to expect delays
• Provincial Offences Court - closed
In Thorold, Community Care, the TCAG Child Care Centre, Thorold Library have announced they will stay closed.
Mike's Auto has also announced it will not open today due to weather.
