It's looking like city staff who have been working remotely during the pandemic will be returning to the office in the near future.

At a meeting in city council last night, councillors passed a motion for staff to be able to return to work safely.

City CAO Manoj Dilwaria confirmed to Thoroldnews.com that a date is still being chiseled out for the final return of the staff that has been working off-site.

"An official date for return to the office environment is forthcoming as we continue to consult with our Joint Health and Safety Committee and the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Group," Dilwaria wrote.

The motion was brought forward by Coun. John Kenny, sparking some discussion on how the transition back to working in person would happen safely.

Dilwaria said safety protocols and how the return will happen practically is still being finalized.

Niagara's first case of COVID-19 was detected on March 13, 2020.

Thorold city hall has since been open on an appointment-only basis.
