Public Health reports a new outbreak of COVID-19 at Eventide Home in Niagara Falls.

According to the region, the outbreak is contained to the first floor.

The outbreaks at Tabor Manor, Garden City Manor, and Linhaven Nursing Home are still ongoing.

Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday after a short-term spike in new cases.

There are now 50 active cases of the infection spread across several Niagara municipalities, with the largest number found in Lincoln, followed by Niagara Falls and Pelham.

While health officials have seen an uptick in new infections with no known cause, so-called community spread, a majority are still connected to long-term care facility outbreaks.

Since the first case on March 13, 819 cases of COVID-19 have been found in the region.

The Niagara Region council voted on Thursday night to make face coverings mandatory at indoor establishments in the region to reduce the spread of the infection.

As of Friday, most establishments that were ordered to shut down when the pandemic made its entry in Canada have been permitted to reopen under Stage 3 of the province's plan to get the economy up and running again.
