COVID-19

For the first time since this spring, Niagara is reporting over 100 active cases of COVID-19.

On Friday 11 cases were reported by Public Health, spread across all municipalities excluding Niagara-on-the-Lake, which reports zero active cases.

Among the 105 active cases, 9.3 percent are hospitalized.

Over half of all cases are listed as non-outbreak cases, with close contact with an already known case as the primary route of infection.

Close to one-third of all cases are believed to be community transmission.

The predominant age group in which cases have been found is 20-39, followed by ages 40-59.

There are two ongoing outbreaks in long-term care- or retirement homes in the region.

Ahead of today's numbers being released, Minister of Health Christine Elliott Tweeted that due to a data review at Toronto Public Health, "a number of cases and deaths that occurred in the spring or summer are being reported today."
