The list of health care facility outbreaks in the region has shortened dramatically over the last week.

Several dozens of long-term care residents lost their lives as the pandemic ravaged through multiple facilities across Niagara, with some outbreaks lasting for months.

Albright Manor in Lincoln and Garden City Manor are now the two remaining health care facility outbreaks.

On June 5, Niagara Health declared all their facilities free of COVID-19 outbreaks as the hospital system is preparing to open up for routine visits again in what they call a ‘gradual phased approach.’

Currenty the COVID-19 hotspot is found in St Catharines, where around 60 cases of COVID-19 was found on Pioneer Flower Farms after the region commenced mass-testing after workers had become symptomatic.

The farm announced that they have taken precautions in coordination with Public Health as well as supporting the migrant workers as they entered self-isolation.

Thorold News have reached out for comment to the farm, but not heard back.

During the weekend, two grocery store workers in the region tested positive for COVID-19.

One worker at Zehrs in St Catharines Fairview Mall and the Real Canadian Superstore in Grimsby both told their customers that they would close over the weekend for sanitization.

The worker at Zehrs last worked on June 4, and the Superstore worker on June 3.

The stores said co-workers who had been in contact with the positive cases were instructed to self-isolate, and that customers who recently had visited the store would be contacted.

As of June 7, 716 cases of COVID-19 had been found in the region.

The vast majority, 568 had resolved.
