NRPH reports 471 cases of COVID-19 in Niagara on Monday, but says the staggering number is due to a data backlog of 388 cases.
There are 1,438 active cases in Niagara after this weekend.
10 new deaths were reported, bringing the total to 196.
Saturday saw 139 cases and Sunday 147.
Thorold's total caseload jumped from 192 last week to 243 in Monday's update.
There are 50 outbreaks in Niagara in total, of which 29 are in long-term care or hospital settings.

Ontario update
Public Health Ontario has reported 3,338 new cases of COVID-19 today, (Jan. 11).
The province has reported 29 deaths today. Of those, 14 were residents of long-term care homes.
One of the deaths reported today was an individual between 40 and 59 years old, seven were between 60 and 79 years old, and 21 were over the age of 80.
Since yesterday, 102 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and seven COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
The Jan. 11 updates provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data collected for Jan. 10:
- 2,756 new recoveries
- 1,563 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,483 reported yesterday. On weekends, more than 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report bed census data, so today's report does not include all hospitalizations.
- There are 387 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 388 yesterday) and 268 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 266 yesterday).
- 30,632 current active cases in Ontario, which is up from 30,079 reported yesterday
- The province reported 46,403 tests processed yesterday resulting in a 7.7 per cent positivity rate. The province's goal is three per cent.
- There is a backlog of 28,774 tests awaiting processing.
- Of the 3,338 cases reported today, 931 are from Toronto, 531 are from Peel, 241 are from York Region, and 84 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Based on case data reported today, the new cases include 517 people under 20, 1,160 people between 20 and 39 years old, 910 people between 40 and 59 years old, 488 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 263 people over the age of 80.
- There are 256 ongoing, active outbreaks at long-term care homes in the province, 159 active outbreaks at retirement homes, and 82 active outbreaks at hospitals.
- There were 8,859 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 10, down from 9,983 on Jan. 9.
- As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 10, the province reports 122,105 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- There are 5,884 total vaccinations completed (both doses), which is unchanged from yesterday. The vaccine approved for use requires two doses given 21 days apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 219,120 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 183,476 recoveries and 5,012 deaths, of which 3,004 were individuals living in long-term care homes
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,474 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 159.6 cases per 100,000 people from Jan. 1 to Jan. 7, which is an increase of 19.9 per cent compared to Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 when the average weekly incidence rate was 133.1 cases per 100,000 people.
