33 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Niagara on Sunday

Niagara Public Health reports 33 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday in the highest daily increase in about two weeks.

There are now 260 confirmed active cases in Niagara, after 13 cases were listed as resolved.

117 variant cases have been caught in screening.

No new deaths were recorded, leaving the region's total recorded death toll at 373.

The list of health care outbreaks grew by one after Chippawa Creek at Bella Care in Niagara Falls Orchard Unit was added to the list.

The outbreak at Cobblestone Gardens in Thorold is still listed as active, after it was added on February 25. The region's medical officer of health, Dr. Mustafa Hirji told Thoroldnews.com last week that cases had been confirmed at the home, but was unable to comment on the cases had been found among staff or residents.

Cobblestone Gardens did not return a request for comment. According to the region's reporting tool, 94 percent of the homes residents have received the first dose of the vaccine.  

In total, Niagara Public Health reported two new outbreaks on Sunday.
