20 new cases, one death in Niagara on Wednesday

NRPH reports 20 new cases of COVID-19 for the second day in a row, as well as one death.

The number of active cases is now 209 in Niagara.

At least 85 residents have died after contracting the virus.

The region's medical officer said in an update yesterday that all residents who have died after getting COVID-19 have been over the age of 50.

Ontario update

 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,723 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is 16 more than yesterday. There were 1,707 cases reported on Tuesday.

Of today's new cases, most are confined to the Greater Toronto Area. There are 500 new cases confirmed in Peel Region, 410 cases in Toronto and 196 in York Region. That represents 1,106 — or 64 per cent — of the new lab-confirmed cases reported over the past 24 hours.

The agency also reported 35 more deaths related to the coronavirus over the past 24 hours. Yesterday, seven deaths were reported.

More than 1,686 cases have been resolved since yesterday. 

Over the past 24 hours, 44,300 tests were completed.

Since the start of the pandemic, public health labs in Ontario have processed more than 6.3 million COVID tests.

Throughout Ontario, there are 656 people currently hospitalized with the coronavirus.
