Public Health reports 5 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, after a weekend with 9 new cases reported on Saturday and Sunday together.

That leaves Niagara with 62 active cases confirmed as of Monday morning, with most of them found in Lincoln, followed by Niagara-on-the-Lake.

A total of 833 Niagara residents have tested positive for the virus since the first case was confirmed in the region on March 13.

In a metric recently released by Public Health, the average number of new cases per day outside of outbreak-related cases show an upward trend.

Numbers from the middle of July showed an average spread of 2.1 cases per day not related to health-care facility outbreaks.

The percent of new cases without any known exposure currently sits at 44 percent in Niagara.

The age group 20-39 is now the largest category of residents who caught the virus.

Four long-term care homes are battling outbreaks of the virus, according to Public Health.

Last week provincial health officials pleaded to younger Ontarians to be mindful that the virus is still out there, and to not give in to COVID-19 fatigue.
