A Thorold resident is among 13 new cases of COVID-19 found in Niagara over the weekend.

On Saturday, 10 cases were reported by Public Health – the highest number in several weeks.

The cases stem from close contact and community spread, said the region's statistics tool, also showing that the origins of at least two of the cases are still under investigation.

One of the cases is in a Thorold resident, the municipal breakdown shows.

To date, 28 Thorold residents have tested positive for the virus.

41.7 percent of those who contracted the virus in Niagara do not know where they have caught the virus.

Earlier this week, Public Health signaled that Niagara likely would be entering Stage 3 of the provincial reopening.

In that case, the announcement would come on Monday.

Thorold News will give an update as soon as a decision has been announced.
