Worker killed by falling construction material in Welland, police say

The 43-year-old man was critically injured at the construction site and died at hospital

On Nov. 12, 2019, at approximately 2:25 p.m., uniform officers from the 3 District Welland office of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to an industrial accident in Welland.

Officers arrived on-scene with Welland Fire and Emergency Services and Niagara Emergency Medical Services. Emergency services personnel located a construction site in the area of King Street and Second Street.

A 43-year-old man was found in critical condition after a piece of construction material had fallen, striking the worker.  The worker was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The identity of deceased is not being released out of respect for the next of kin. He was not a resident of the Niagara Region.

The matter remains under investigation by detectives from the 3 District Criminal Investigations Branch and the Forensic Services Unit.

The scene is being held as part of the ongoing Ministry of Labour investigation.
