Woman in critical condition after crash on QEW overpass

On Nov. 4, at approximately 6:55 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of a serious collision involving two vehicles in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Regional Police Service 2 District – Niagara Falls officers responded to the area of Queen Elizabeth Highway overpass on Sodom Road along with Niagara EMS paramedics and Niagara Falls Fire Services. 

The initial investigation determined a blue Pontiac Trans AM and a black GMC Sierra collided on the north side of the overpass.

The driver of the Pontiac, a Fort Erie woman in her 60s, was found to be in serious condition.  The woman was transported to an out-of-region hospital where she is listed in critical condition.  

The driver of the GMC, a Fort Erie man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

Detectives from the collision reconstruction unit assisted by the forensic service unit were called in to investigate the collision.

Sodom Road over the QEW was closed for the police investigation. It was expected to remain closed into the afternoon and drivers were urged to find alternative routes.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009433.
