Woman arrested and charged in connection with 2022 Fort Erie shooting

Detectives with 5 District (Fort Erie) have continued to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting that occurred on October 25, 2022. As a result, detectives were able to identify another suspect.

On Dec. 5, 2023, detectives with the assistance of 41 Division of the Toronto Police Service located and arrested Hasti Haghdoost in Scarborough. Haghdoost was transported back to Niagara where she remains in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse on Dec. 7.

Haghdoost, 30, of Scarborough, is charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Criminal harassment – 264(2)(c)
  • Mischief – 430(4)
  • Accessory after the face to commit indictable offence – 463(a)

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 5 District Fort Erie detective office have been investigating this shooting incident since it was reported on October 25, 2022. 

On October 25th, 2022, at 10:51am Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 5 District (Fort Erie) responded to shooting at a residential address in the area of Village Creek Drive between Old Mill Road and Ott Road, in the Town of Fort Erie.

As a result of that investigation an arrest warrant was issued for Aynla Mustafa Hassan, 30, of North York. On Dec. 29, 2022, detectives with NRPS Special Investigative Services Unit working with the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, located and arrested Hassan in Toronto. Hassan has been transported back to Niagara.

Hassan is charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Attempted murder while using certain firearms - 239(1)(a) CC
  • Aggravated assault - 268(1) CC
  • Use firearm during commission of an offence - 85(1)(a) CC
  • Careless use of a firearm - 86(1) CC
  • Pointing a Firearm - 87(1) CC
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm - 91(2) CC
  • Possession firearm contrary to prohibition - 117.01(1) CC
  • Fail to comply with release order - 145(5)(a) CC

Hassan is being held in custody for a bail hearing and will appear via video link to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on December 30, 2022.

Original Release - October 25, 2022

On Oct. 25, 2022, at 10:51am Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 5 District (Fort Erie) responded to shooting at a residential address in the area of Village Creek Drive between Old Mill Road and Ott Road, in the Town of Fort Erie.

Upon arrival officers located an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was assessed by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics before being transported to a trauma centre for advanced medical care. The victim is currently listed in stable condition.

Detectives assigned to the 5 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by members of the Forensic Services Unit. Detectives can confirm this was a targeted incident as the suspect and victim are known to one and other.

Aynla Mustafa Hassan, 30, of North York is currently wanted for the Criminal Code offence of aggravated assault.

Hassan is described as follows:

  • Male
  • Black
  • 5’8” tall
  • 190 lbs
  • Dark hair in braids
  • Wearing grey or black clothing (possible track suit)

The vehicle Hassan is believed to be driving is as follows:

  • 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
  • Ontario Registration #CWXJ 443
  • Brown in colour
  • 4 doors

Hsaan is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.  Members of the public who know the whereabouts of HASSAN or the location of the vehicle he was driving are encouraged to contact 911 immediately.

Detectives are appealing to those who reside in the Village Creek Drive and surrounding area to review their CCTV footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009525 with any relevant information.
