Victim suffers serious injuries in St. Catharines stabbing incident

On July 5, 2021 at approximately 6:25 p.m., 1 District – St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police (NRPS) responded to a report of a stabbing in St. Catharines.

Officers attended the area of Division Street and Riordon Street and located a male victim in his 50s suffering from stab wounds. The victim was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and a transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He was subsequently flown by Ornge Air Ambulance to an out of region hospital.

Stephen Kovacs (29 years old) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the offence of:
    •    Aggravated assault sec. 268 CC

Kovacs was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing on July 6, 2021, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse.
